Sandvik Mining & Construction
Sandvik Mining and Sandvik Construction offer the world’s widest range of equipment for rock drilling, rock excavation, processing, demolition and bulk-materials handling.
In 2016 the company commissioned a new distribution facility in Pinkenba, Queensland, Australia and Rack & Shelf Labels (Australia) Pty Ltd were subsequently awarded the contract to supply and install the location labelling solution at the site. The labels needed to identify 30,000 locations and were to be installed within a 4-week completion schedule.
Sandvik Mining & Construction engaged The Rack & Shelf Labels Group to fulfil its location labelling due to our proven track record in completing large complicated projects within tight timescales. There were a number of different design specifications included in the solution provided. These were due to the wide range of materials handling storage types to be installed at the facility to accommodate the wide product range Sandvik offer.
Initially our project managers carried out a rigorous assessment of both the project and the site. Rack & Shelf Labels (Australia) Pty Ltd then used its vast experience in the logistics environment to create detailed drawings to identify and confirm the customers’ requirements. These drawings were submitted for approval and assisted in the final solution being installed to the customers satisfaction.
The labelling system was supported with the installation of a variety of signs to both the racking and shelving areas. Once the layout was approved careful consideration was given to the label designs. The remit was given to provide an operator friendly solution, maximising durability, visibility and high performance scanning capability. Further to this, it was necessary to guarantee full functionality and compatibility with the warehouse management system. As a result Rack and Shelf Labels designed a label solution allowing lower level scanning capability in the racking areas. The highest quality materials were also used to ensure that optimal performance of the barcodes was assured.
Once the final label designs were approved by the customer label production started at our Australian manufacturing facility. Liaising with the customer, our project manager also ensured that our installation schedule was integrated seamlessly into the overall project program and timescales were comfortably achievable. Once the installation had begun strict quality control procedures were carried out regularly and documented. This ensured that quality and accuracy levels were of the highest possible standard throughout the project.
Each stage of the project was completed on schedule and to the customers’ total satisfaction in June 2016. As a result of the successful implementation of the project, The Rack & Shelf Labels Group was subsequently engaged to provide a further location labelling solution at a secondary site in Mount Isa, Queensland.
In 2017 we secured two further projects with Sandvik; one at a third site in Dandenong, South Victoria then an extension to the original project in Pinkemba, Queensland.
